The Tête Rouge tour
The Tête Rouge is an emblematic mountain figure. The view is also breathtaking: it offers a view of the Vallon de la Treille, the Barres de Saint-Esprit, the sommet de Garlabanet and the Chaîne de l'Étoile. Relax at the top of the Tête Rouge with a book signed by Pagnol because you are in the middle of his childhood landscapes. Remember to take water, a hat and sunscreen, especially during the summer months. And of course good shoes are essential to consider doing the Tour de la Tête Rouge.
The legend of Allauch
Legend tells us that during the siege of the Saracens in the 10th century, the villagers, close to famine, threw the twenty loaves of bread they had left to the enemy to make them believe that there was an abundance of food behind their walls. The Saracens then left the camp. In the 19th century, Allauch became a major tobacco industry. Today, Allauch is turning into a residential area.
Additional tips:
Avoid the Tête Rouge hike during hot weather. On the asphalt, it's a little steep, so start slowly by taking small steps. You can also go to the ranch at the parking lot (beginning of the hike) for a pony ride. Also take the time to visit Allauch.
How to get to the start of the hike?
By car From the metro La Rose to Marseille (6km - 10 min): Take the boulevard de la Croix-Rouge towards Plan-de-Cuques. Take the D4b in the direction of Allauch. Enter the village and go up on the left towards Notre-Dame, then Cimetière, and Cimetière des Claous. Park in the parking lot 700 m further between the ranch and the cemetery.
