The Belsunce district owes its name to Bishop Henri François-Xavier de Belsunce-Castelmoron, known for his actions during the Great Plague that afflicted Marseille in 1720.
Do you all know the famous song by Bouga Belsunce Breackdown? Let us tell you more about this popular district of Marseille. Belsunce is the area of cheap sportswear stores: sneakers, tracksuits and other sports branded items are competing in shops that seem to offer the same items at more affordable prices. Textiles, jewellery, bazaars, blend together in a perpetually lively and colorful atmosphere. There is also plenty of hotels in the area. Belsunce also houses the Alcazar library.
Near the impressive residential towers and a stone's throw from the Centre Bourse and its shopping center, Cours Belsunce provides a link with the Porte d'Aix and its lively oriental souk. The tramway can take you to Rue de la République, a new shopping street, in one stop.
And if all this shopping has made you hungry, why not get off at the Old Port and sit down on the terrace of one of the many bars or restaurants in the area?
Have you thought about renting a segway to visit Marseille differently? The younger ones will undoubtedly enjoy :-D
