The Provençal village of Ansouis
Visiting Provence will take you to Luberon, in the small typical village of Provence: Ansouis. In the center of the Aygues region, overlooking the Durance plain and with the Grand Lubéron at the horizon, Ansouis is protected by a thousand-year-old castle. The location is central and strategic to control the road between the Provençal villages of Aix-en-Provence and Apt.
Ansouis was built sheltered from the Mistral, with charming alleys full of artisans and shops. You will be seduced by the Provençal atmosphere that can only be enjoyed on the terrace of a café in the shade of a plane tree. Moreover, the village has been designated as one of the most beautiful villages in Provence.
Ansouis Castle, built in the 10th century, underwent many modifications over the centuries before being abandoned. Saved by enthusiasts, you can visit it and admire its gardens.
As we walk down into the village, the Ansouis Church stands. It is said to have been made in the 11th century, but the exact date could not be established. This did not affect its classification as a Historic Monument. There are still relics of Count Elzear of Sabran and his wife Delphine, who ruled the city in the 14th century.
One of the city's treasures is its vineyards and wines. With its AOC Côtes du Luberon appellation, Ansouis wine will delight the most experienced gourmets.
To be visited absolutely:
